Overview

This full-day biking tour in Kyoto lasts about seven to eight hours and covers approximately 25 kilometers. It begins at a shop located two minutes from Kyoto Station, where participants meet the guide, get fitted with a high-quality Cannondale bike and helmet, and receive bottled water. The tour starts with a fifteen-minute visit to Nishi Honganji, one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and a less-visited religious site. Next, the group cycles to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for a twenty-minute stop to observe local worshippers and learn about the shrine's history. The ride continues to Kinkakuji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion, where participants spend thirty minutes receiving commentary, relaxing, and having the option to buy ice cream. Afterward, cyclists ride through the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds to learn about its role as the former residence of Japan's imperial family. The tour then proceeds to Gion, Kyoto's geisha district, for a fifteen-minute stop to explore the area and its traditions. A short five-minute stop follows at Tofuku-ji Temple, one of Japan's oldest and largest Zen temples, noted for its bridge views and spacious grounds. The final main stop is Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, where guides lead participants along less crowded paths through the famous torii gates for about twenty minutes. Lunch is included during the tour. Groups are small, and guides are bilingual and experienced. Participants must be at least thirteen years old and comfortable riding a bike. Dietary requirements should be communicated in advance.
