Field Museum

Planning for Millennium Park started in October 1997, with construction beginning in October 1998. The park opened on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule, with a three-day celebration attended by about 300,000 people, including an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. Millennium Park has free admission and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, Crown Fountain, Lurie Garden, and other attractions. It is built atop a parking garage and the commuter rail Millennium Station, making it the world's largest rooftop garden. The park connects to other parts of Grant Park via the BP Pedestrian Bridge and Nichols Bridgeway.
