Praca do Comercio is a large plaza facing the Tagus River, also known as Terreiro do Paço. After the 1755 earthquake, it was rebuilt as part of Lisbon's Pombaline Downtown. From the 19th century, it housed key Portuguese state departments.
25 de Abril Bridge
Opened in 1966 as Salazar Bridge, it was renamed after the 1974 Carnation Revolution. The bridge's design and color are similar to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge, built by the same company.

São Jorge Castle, on a hill overlooking Lisbon, has served as a royal palace, military barracks, and archive.
