The tour starts by driving a GPS-guided GoCar, a small open-air vehicle, that provides turn-by-turn directions and narration as you explore Monterey Bay and surrounding areas. This rental includes a safety orientation, a helmet, a tank of gas, and a map. You can spend between one and three hours on the route, choosing your own pace. The route passes through historic Cannery Row, where you can view shops, restaurants, and attractions. Along the way, the GoCar’s narration highlights the Monterey Bay Aquarium, located in a former cannery building, which features marine exhibits like kelp forests, jellyfish, sea otters, and hammerhead sharks visible from outside. You will also visit Old Fisherman’s Wharf, known for seafood eateries, gift shops, and whale-watching cruises. The tour continues along the coast to Pacific Grove, passing Lovers Point Park, Asilomar State Beach, and the Monarch Grove Sanctuary, where thousands of Monarch butterflies cluster from October to February.
