Overview

The tour starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot before dawn, lasting about one and a half hours through local settlements surrounded by trees. Upon arrival, participants find a spot at Nagarkot View Tower to watch the sunrise over eight Himalayan ranges, including Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Mount Everest. The sun’s rays gradually illuminate the mountain peaks and the valley below, including the Indrawati River. After sunrise, the tour continues with a hike down from Nagarkot through pine forests and terraced farms. The trail passes small villages inhabited by Brahmin, Newar, and Tamang communities, combining forest and local trails on the way to Changu Narayan. Along the way, hikers will enjoy panoramic mountain views and fresh mountain air. A brief visit to Buddha Peace Park is included during the hike, where there is a small statue of Lord Buddha and a garden with views over the jungle. The final stop is Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest Hindu temple in the Kathmandu Valley. The guide shows visitors the temple’s four entrances guarded by mythical stone beasts and explains the wooden and stone carvings of Hindu and Tantric deities found in the courtyard. Highlights include statues of Garuda, Narasimha, and Vishworup, as well as Nepal’s oldest Sanskrit inscription on a stone pillar. The tour concludes with transport back to Kathmandu, with pickup available from several locations including Thamel, Lazimpat, Durbar Marg, Patan, Buddha, Bhaktapur, and Nagarkot. The entire trip lasts between three and nine hours, depending on hiking pace and stops. Transportation is provided in an air-conditioned vehicle, and entrance fees and taxes are included when applicable.
