Overview

This is a 2-hour private walking tour of Pompeii led by a professional archaeologist. The tour begins at the Porta Marina Superiore entrance, where the guide will be waiting with a sign. Admission to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii is included. The first stop is the Basilica, an open portico that once sheltered merchants and other activities. Next, the tour visits the Forum, the main square of the ancient city. The group then walks along Via dell’Abbondanza, Pompeii’s main street. The tour continues to the granary, where marble tables and baths are visible, along with plaster casts of eruption victims, including people, a dog, and a tree. Afterwards, visitors see the House of Menander, known for its architecture and decoration. The Stabian Baths, the oldest thermal complex in Pompeii, are the next stop. The tour proceeds to the Lupanar, the city’s well-known brothel. Then the House of Faun, one of the largest private residences, is visited. The tour concludes with visits to the Odeon (Teatro Piccolo) and the main Theater. Throughout the 2 hours, the archaeologist provides detailed explanations about daily life in Pompeii during the Roman Empire. The tour does not include lunch, hotel pickup or drop-off, or transportation to and from the site. It operates in all weather conditions, and comfortable shoes are recommended.
