The tour takes place at Cockburn’s Port Wine Cellars located in the historic center of Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. A certified guide leads visitors through the large aging warehouse, which is the most extensive in the area and stores 6,518 Port wine barrels under its roof. Cockburn’s is one of the few cellars that employs its own team of coopers who maintain the barrels. The guide explains the process of aging Cockburn’s Ports in oak casks and ferries, with a team of tasters and oenologists monitoring the wines until they reach the ideal maturity. The warehouse’s size allows for the storage of a large quantity of Aging Special Reserve, which develops its distinctive style through longer aging in wood compared to other Reserve Ports. The visit lasts between one hour and eighty minutes and concludes with a guided tasting of Cockburn’s Ports inside the lodge.
