Overview

The tour begins at the meeting point in Reykjavík’s BSI Bus Terminal where travelers board a bus for the 30-minute drive to Raufarhólshellir Lava Tunnel. Upon arrival, they receive safety equipment including a helmet and flashlight before starting a guided walk inside the tunnel. The lava tube reaches widths up to 30 metres and heights of 10 metres, and visitors explore the path of lava that flowed thousands of years ago. The tunnel ceiling near the entrance has collapsed, allowing natural light to create columns inside. The walls display a range of colours caused by different minerals in the rock. The guided cave tour lasts about one hour. After the tour, guests return by bus to Reykjavík. The total tour time is approximately three hours and includes carbon-neutral transportation. Pickup from the cruise port is available if selected.
