Overview

The tour departs from South Mission Bay Park in San Diego and lasts between two and three hours. The boat leaves Mission Bay and travels through the bay, passing landmarks such as the Mission Beach Boardwalk with Belmont Park’s coaster, before reaching the jetties. In about ten minutes, the boat exits the bay and enters the open Pacific Ocean. Along the way, passengers see Ocean Beach Pier, Dog Beach, and Sunset Cliffs Natural Park with its sandstone bluffs and sea caves. The main focus of the cruise is whale watching and dolphin watching, with opportunities to spot other marine life as well. An expert naturalist and a skilled captain provide live commentary identifying wildlife and explaining the surroundings. The boat includes onboard restrooms and a galley where food and drinks can be purchased. Alcoholic beverages and snacks become available for purchase once the boat has traveled about three miles from the bay. Free parking is available on Quivira Road near the departure point. Optional upgrades include priority boarding and binocular rentals for an additional fee. The exact duration of the cruise may vary depending on the season and the locations of animal sightings. Passengers are advised to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before departure, and children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The temperature on the ocean is typically 10 to 15 degrees cooler than in the bay, so dressing in smart casual layers is recommended.
