Overview

This small-group guided tour of about two and a half hours covers the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica if it is open that day. The tour begins with a visit to the Vatican Museums, where the guide leads the group through over four miles of galleries displaying around 20,000 works, including sculptures, frescoes, tapestries, paintings, and architectural pieces. Highlights include the Belvedere Courtyard, Pinecone Courtyard, Pio Clementino Museum, Octagonal Courtyard, Sala Degli Animali, Sala Delle Muse, Sala Rotonda, Sala A Croce Greca, Gallery of the Candelabra, Gallery of Tapestries, and Gallery of Maps. Next, the tour continues to the Sistine Chapel to view the famous frescoes by painters such as Perugino, Pinturicchio, Ghirlandaio, Rosselli, Botticelli, Signorelli, Della Gatta, and Michelangelo. Key artworks include the ceiling frescoes with the Creation of Adam and the Last Judgement on the rear wall, as well as the Cosmati floor mosaic and other significant religious and mythological depictions. If St. Peter's Basilica is open, the tour concludes with a visit to this Renaissance church, located within Vatican City and central to the Catholic faith. If the Basilica is closed due to religious ceremonies or the Papal audience, the guide extends the tour inside the Vatican Museums instead. The tour includes skip-the-line tickets and is led by an official licensed Vatican guide. There is no pickup or drop-off included.
