This small-group kayak tour lasts about three hours and takes place on Lake Mapourika, located just minutes from Franz Josef Glacier. Participants paddle across the calm surface of the lake while viewing the Southern Alps and nearby glaciers. Lake Mapourika formed around 14,000 years ago as Franz Josef Glacier retreated and lies between the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea. The tour includes a visit to a kiwi sanctuary within one of Westland’s oldest remaining rainforests. All kayaking equipment is provided, including dry bags, splash jackets, gloves, and hats during winter months. A local guide leads the group throughout the excursion. Private transportation is included, with courtesy pick-ups and drop-offs to and from the lake. High-quality photos of the trip are also supplied. Food and drinks are not included.
