Overview

This 3-4 hour snorkelling tour takes place in the Porto Cesareo Marine Protected Area along the Ionian coast near Lecce, Italy. The tour starts at the Slipway of Porto Cesareo, where the catamaran departs toward Isola Grande, also known as Isola dei Conigli, an island with dense pine and acacia vegetation that is currently undergoing wildlife restocking. After circumnavigating the island, the boat proceeds north along the Gulf of Taranto, passing natural inlets and white beaches with golden dunes. The first swim stop is near Torre Chianca, a 16th-century tower by a small island. Here, at about 4.5 meters deep, participants can snorkel to see Roman shipwreck columns made of cipollino marble. The boat then passes Isola della Malva, located near an artificial basin used for breeding mullets and sea bass. Next, the tour continues to Torre Lapillo, where there is a second swim stop for snorkeling near reef rocks with underwater springs and views of the Madonna dei Naviganti statue on the seabed. On the return trip, there is a final swim stop at a cove within the marine protected area. During this last stop, guests are served an aperilunch or aperitif on board, including drinks and local products with native wine. Snorkelling equipment is included. The catamaran offers disabled access and allows pets. The tour can be customized and is also available for private bookings such as birthday parties, graduations, stag and hen parties, ceremonies, school groups, and other events.

Itinerary

1

Area Marina Protetta Porto Cesareo

The catamaran departs from the Slipway of Porto Cesareo, heading first to Isola Grande, also called Isola dei Conigli. This island is known for its dense pine and acacia vegetation and was once home to many wild rabbits. It is now in a phase of wildlife restocking. After circumnavigating the island, the boat proceeds north along the Gulf of Taranto, following a coastline featuring natural inlets and white beaches with golden dunes. The first swim stop takes place after passing Isola del Cuore.

2

Torre Chianca

At Torre della Chianca, built in 1570 and located in front of a small island, the boat stops for about 20 minutes. This area was once a Roman port with a natural inlet. Snorkelers can observe columns made of cipollino marble on the sandy seabed at roughly 4.5 meters depth. These columns come from a Roman shipwreck caused by a docking error. Nearby is Isola della Malva and the Bacino Grande, an artificial basin used for breeding mullets and sea bass.

Torre Lapillo

Snorkeling is available around reef rocks where underwater springs create colorful effects and interesting underwater landscapes. This location also features the Madonna dei Naviganti statue on the seabed, dedicated to sea victims including those from the Costa Concordia disaster and migrants.
