Overview

This small-group gondola ride lasts about 40 minutes and takes you along Venice’s Grand Canal and nearby romantic canals. A singer and musician perform live during the ride, which includes a short introduction lasting about 10 minutes that explains the serenade experience and the history of Venetian gondolas. The gondola travels past landmarks such as Teatro La Fenice, Mozart's House, Peggy Guggenheim's Palace, Punta della Dogana, the Accademia Bridge, Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, and the Campanile di San Marco. After the ride, you visit the Gondola Gallery where you see original tools, a detailed cross-section of a gondola, and learn about how these boats have been crafted for centuries. Included in the experience is a virtual reality journey aboard a gondola that recreates Venice’s canals and their traditions. A dinner option is available if selected. Food and drinks outside of this are not included, and no hotel pickup or drop-off is provided.

Itinerary

1

Canal Grande

Known as the most beautiful road in the world, the Grand Canal has been the setting for Venetian gondola serenades for centuries. The views you see today are similar to those a nobleman might have seen in the 18th century, and before him, a Renaissance courtesan or medieval merchant.

2

Teatro La Fenice

Once one of seven major theatres in Venice, La Fenice remains the city’s only opera house. It hosted operas by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, and especially Giuseppe Verdi, who is closely linked to its history.

3

Palazzo Gritti Badoer

This palace is named after the Gritti family, including Andrea Gritti, a Renaissance Doge of Venice who led Venetian forces against the League of Cambrai, an alliance of France, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire opposing Venice’s expansion.

4

Peggy Guggenheim Collection

One of the world’s most important art collections, founded by Peggy Guggenheim after she arrived in Venice in 1949. The collection is housed in a building on the Grand Canal, featuring a terrace where Guggenheim often sunbathed.

5

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

Located at the entrance to the Grand Canal, this large circular church is notable for its strategic position and architecture. Every November 21, Venice celebrates the Madonna della Salute here to mark the end of the plague.

6

Campanile di San Marco

From the gondola, you can see St. Mark’s basin and the bell tower with its distinctive square base.
