Overview

This three-hour bike tour takes you around Washington DC’s main monuments and memorials along the National Mall and Tidal Basin. The ride is on mostly flat, easy routes with no street riding, making it suitable for families and people who have not cycled in urban areas before. The tour begins with a 15-minute check-in and bike fitting at Unlimited Biking on 701 D Street NW. You will visit the Jefferson Memorial, where you can walk up the steps to see Thomas Jefferson’s bronze statue and views of the Tidal Basin. At the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, you will dismount and walk your bike through the four sections that represent FDR’s presidential terms and see the statue of his dog, Fala. Next, stop outside the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial to hear about the memorial’s design before walking through the "Mountain of Despair" to the "Stone of Hope." The Korean War Veterans Memorial is next, where the guide explains the symbolism behind the statues. Then you will reach the Lincoln Memorial, where you can climb the steps to see Abraham Lincoln’s statue and learn about details like the hand signs. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial stop is outside the wall, where the guide shares stories about the conflict and the memorial’s design. Nearby is the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, dedicated to women who served, mostly nurses. The tour continues to the National World War II Memorial, where you will have a few minutes to explore while learning about its design and the only authorized graffiti on a DC memorial. Finally, the group stops at the Washington Monument to hear why the monument has two different colors. The tour does not include entry inside the monument. The tour includes the use of a bicycle, a mandatory helmet, and equipment for children of all ages and sizes. No hotel pickup or drop-off is provided, and gratuities are not included. The total ride covers about five miles over three hours.
