The tour is led by qualified New Zealand guides with local knowledge and uses traditional double sea kayaks equipped with cockpits, spray skirts to keep paddlers dry, and rudders for easier steering. The operator holds a marine mammal permit, allowing legal and responsible viewing of marine animals. Fur seal sightings are guaranteed on every trip. The tour runs year-round, weather permitting, and follows sustainable practices as New Zealand’s first “Friend of the Sea” operator for dolphin and whale encounters. All kayaking gear is provided, including dry bags for cameras, paddle jackets, wet shoes, dry pants, gloves, and hats during winter months. Private transportation to and from the launch site is included. Participants should bring appropriate clothing such as thermal tops, fleece, quick-dry pants or shorts, sunglasses, a hat, and water. The activity carries inherent risks such as injury or adverse weather effects, and those prone to motion sickness are advised to take medication beforehand.
