Overview

The Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Boat Tour departs from Ketchikan and lasts three hours aboard the Aleutian Ballad, a vessel known from the TV show Deadliest Catch. Passengers board the boat at least 15 minutes before departure at Berth 3 in downtown Ketchikan. The tour travels through the calm, protected waters of Alaska's Inside Passage near Annette Bay, avoiding the open ocean and rough seas. The crew includes experienced fishermen who have worked in the Bering Sea and operate the boat while explaining commercial crab fishing methods. During the tour, passengers watch as king crab, box crab, octopus, rockfish, prawns, and other marine creatures are caught and lifted onto the deck. The catch is placed in a live tank for observation before being released back into the water. Wildlife such as sea lions, porpoises, and eagles may also be seen along the route. Raincoats and ponchos are provided if needed. Food and drinks are not included, but snacks like chips and chocolate bars can be purchased on board. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not offered. The minimum age to participate is five years, and the tour is wheelchair accessible with prior notice.
