Overview

The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel or campground in Moab. Then you board a four-wheel drive vehicle to start a half-day trip lasting about 4 hours. The guide drives along Scenic Byway 279, stopping first at a petroglyph site on Potash Road where you can see ancient rock art and learn about the people who created it. Next, you visit other accessible rock art sites along Utah Scenic Byway 279, following easy paths to view more ancient drawings. After these stops, the tour enters Canyonlands National Park’s Island in the Sky district via a 4WD trail. You travel along the White Rim, a sandstone formation that extends about 100 miles around the mesa. Along the way, there is a short 300-foot walk to Musselman Arch, a natural stone arch that guests can view up close. The vehicle then backtracks on the White Rim Trail to the Shafer Trail viewpoint. Here, the group sees the steep 1,000-foot switchbacks of the old cattle trail climbing to the rim, offering wide views of Canyonlands’ backcountry. The 4WD route ends near Utah Scenic Byway 313. The tour includes ice water and the services of a professional guide. National Park entrance fees are not included. Soft drinks, food, gratuities, and car or booster seats for children 7 and under are also excluded. This tour is an easy way to reach scenic overlooks, rock art, and natural formations in Canyonlands National Park using a 4WD vehicle over rugged terrain.
