This small-group glacier hike from Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park lasts about four and a half hours. Groups are limited to eight participants to keep the experience personal. The tour includes transport by minibus from Skaftafell Base Camp to the glacier. Before setting out, the certified glacier guide provides crampons, ice axes, and harnesses and gives a safety briefing on how to use the equipment. The hike begins with a short walk from the glacier bus drop-off to the glacier’s edge.
