Participants meet a certified glacier guide in Skaftafell and receive all necessary glacier gear for safe walking on the ice. The hike takes place on Falljökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. During the walk, the group explores blue ice surfaces, crevasses, and ice formations while the guide provides educational commentary about how Iceland’s glaciers form and change, as well as the volcanic forces that shape the landscape. The tour includes photo stops and opportunities to learn about the glacial environment. No previous experience is required. Food, drinks, gratuities, and hotel transfers are not included. Warm clothing, rain gear, gloves, and hiking boots are recommended; boots and rain gear can be rented at the meeting point. Children aged 10 and older may participate if accompanied by an adult.
