Overview

The tour begins with a 4x4 bus ride from Skaftafell to the base of the Falljökull glacier, part of Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier. A certified glacier guide leads a small group on a hike across Falljökull, lasting about five hours. During the trek, the guide shares information on how the glacier formed and its history. Professional glacier equipment - including crampons, an ice pick, a helmet, and a harness - is provided for safety. Participants must wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support; these can be rented if needed for an additional fee. Lunch is not included in the tour price. The hike covers roughly 8 kilometers over uneven ground and is rated moderate in difficulty. The operator recommends dressing in warm, waterproof layers, and waterproof gear can also be rented at the meeting point for a small charge.
