Participants board a specially modified Super Jeep for an off-road drive to the Kötlujökull glacier, which flows from the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier that sits above the Katla volcano. Upon arrival, the group hikes on the glacier for about three hours to explore a natural ice cave formed within the glacier. The ice cave features a striking contrast of crystal-blue ice and black volcanic ash, created by the volcanic activity of Katla and natural glacier movements. Since the ice caves change constantly due to weather, sunlight, temperature, and precipitation, the guide selects the safest and most accessible cave available on the day of the tour.
