Overview

This full-day tour lasts about nine hours and starts in Queenstown. The small group departs by bus, traveling along Lake Wakatipu with views of The Remarkables mountain range. The route continues through Devil’s Staircase, known for its sharp bends and photo spots. After several scenic stops including Lake Te Anau, where there is a 20-minute break to explore and possibly see local wildlife, the tour continues to Te Anau Downs at the start of the Milford Track. Then the bus passes through Eglinton Valley with its glacial landscape, followed by a short walk at Mirror Lakes to view mountain reflections. A photo stop at Lake Gunn follows, and the drive continues alongside the Hollyford River with its rapids and waterfalls. The group then climbs into the Darran Mountains, pausing to look for kea parrots and take photos. The tour passes through the hand-built Homer Tunnel descending toward Milford Sound. At Milford Sound, participants board a smaller, boutique cruise boat operated by Cruise Milford for a two-hour cruise. This allows close views of wildlife such as New Zealand fur seals, waterfall cascades, and towering rock faces. Mitre Peak, a steep triangular mountain, is visible during the cruise. After the cruise, the tour concludes with a scenic flight back to Queenstown. The flight includes commentary from the pilot about the landscape and history below. Water and snacks are provided during the day, and lunch is included. The minibuses have air conditioning. The return flight is subject to weather and availability, with a bus transfer and partial refund as alternatives if canceled.
