Overview

This full-day small-group bus tour lasts about 12 hours and leaves from Queenstown to Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest peak. The trip crosses Central Otago and Mackenzie Country, passing through Cromwell, Lindis Pass, Omarama, and Lake Pukaki before arriving at Mount Cook Village. The tour includes about 3.5 hours of free time in Mount Cook Village. Visitors can choose to walk to Lake Mueller for views of Mt Sefton’s glaciers, hike the Hooker Valley Track, or take part in optional activities available locally. The tour also includes entrance to the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre. On-board WiFi and commentary from the guide are provided throughout the journey. Itinerary

Cromwell

After leaving Queenstown, the first stop is Cromwell, known as the 'Fruit Bowl of the South' because of its large fruit sculptures. Cromwell is a central hub in the Central Otago region, famous for its Pinot Noir vineyards. The stop lasts about 15 minutes.

Lindis Pass

The route continues through Lindis Pass, a high country area that marks the transition from Central Otago into the Mackenzie Basin. This 10-minute stop provides views of the surrounding alpine landscape.

Omarama

There is a 20-minute break in Omarama, a small village where travelers can buy snacks or food to take along for lunch in Mount Cook. From Omarama, the journey passes the Twizel canals heading towards Lake Pukaki.

Lake Pukaki

Before reaching Mount Cook Village, the tour stops by Lake Pukaki for about 10 minutes. This is the largest lake in the area and offers views of Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand’s tallest mountain.

Mt. Cook Village

Mount Cook Village is the main stop with around 3 hours of free time. Visitors can walk to Lake Mueller for views of Mt Sefton’s glaciers or hike the Hooker Valley Track. There are also optional local activities available. The village is surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery.

On the return trip to Queenstown, the bus stops in Twizel for about 20 minutes. This allows travelers to rest and stretch their legs before the final leg of the journey, arriving back in Queenstown around 7:30 pm.
