Overview

The tour starts early from a central meeting point in Sorrento, with round-trip transport provided in an air-conditioned vehicle. The group travels to Pompeii, arriving with priority access to avoid crowds. A local guide leads a two-and-a-half-hour tour through the archaeological site, covering key locations such as the Civil Forum, Capitolium temple, Macellum market, Forum Baths, Via dell’Abbondanza, Lupanar brothel, House of the Faun, Large Theater, and Basilica. Entry fees and headsets for groups over ten are included. After Pompeii, the tour continues to Mount Vesuvius. The vehicle drives up to 1000 meters on the volcano, where participants begin a walk of 200 meters to the crater’s edge at 1280 meters altitude. The path is uneven but manageable. At the crater, visitors can look into the volcano’s mouth and see panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples. The guide provides information about the volcano’s history, including the eruption in 79 AD, and its geological features. The return trip to Sorrento completes the approximately eight-hour tour. Lunch is not included. The tour may be led by a multi-lingual guide and duration can vary due to traffic or other conditions. If the Vesuvius gate is closed, an alternative visit to the archaeological site of Herculaneum is offered. This group tour is not suitable for cruise passengers. Skip-the-line access is not available on the first Sunday of the month.
