The tour begins with a drive to the Isthmus Canal, also known as the Corinth Canal, a 19th-century engineering project that connects the Aegean and Ionian seas and played an important role in Mediterranean trade. The next stop is the ancient Diolkos, where boats were transported overland on limestone tracks between the Corinthian Gulf and the Saronic Sea. This route contributed to Corinth’s geographical and political importance and explains why Apostle Paul stayed in Corinth for 18 months. The tour continues to Acrocorinth, the acropolis of ancient Corinth, a large rock rising 1886 feet above sea level with nearly five miles of walls, gates, and remains of churches, mosques, houses, cisterns, and the former temple of Aphrodite.
