Overview

This half-day group tour begins with hotel pickup in Siem Reap either in the morning or afternoon. After about a 45-minute drive, the group arrives at Kampong Phluk, a fishing village near Tonle Sap Lake known as the 'harbor of the tusks.' The village features houses built on high stilts and some floating homes. Visitors will see the pagoda resting on the only butte in the area, the sole structure not elevated on stilts. Guests will board a shared local boat for roughly a 1.5-hour ride across Tonle Sap Lake and through the village. The guide explains the villagers' lifestyle, culture, and how the ecosystem supports them. The lake appears endless, with birds flying overhead and wetlands surrounding the village. During the dry season from February to July, the village is accessible by mini bus or motorbike via a bumpy road that dries up. In the rainy season between August and January, a short boat ride through wetlands is needed to reach Kampong Phluk. At this time, an optional canoe ride is available for an additional fee, taking visitors deeper into the flooded forest where trees are submerged part of the year. The tour ends with a return drive to Siem Reap and hotel drop-off. The group size varies daily, and the tour includes an English-speaking guide, shared boat ride, cold bottled water, air-conditioned transport, and hotel transfers.

Kampong Phluk Floating Village

The guide picks up guests from their Siem Reap hotel between 7:30 and 8:30 am for morning tours or between 1:00 and 2:00 pm for afternoon tours. The group then drives about 45 minutes to Kampong Phluk, a fishing village on Tonle Sap Lake. The village is known as 'harbor of the tusks' and features houses built on high stilts along with some floating homes. During the dry season from February to July, the village is reachable by road, though it can be bumpy. In the rainy season from August to January, a short boat ride through wetlands is required to access the village. After arriving at the quay, guests board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on Tonle Sap Lake and through the village. The tour includes a visit to the pagoda situated on the only butte, the single building not raised on stilts. The guide explains the villagers’ way of life, culture, and the area's ecosystem. An optional canoe ride is offered during the rainy season for an additional fee, taking visitors into the flooded forest where trees are submerged part of the year. After the boat ride, the group returns to Siem Reap for hotel drop-off.
