Overview

This four-hour walking tour in Tokyo begins with a visit to Tsukiji's outer fish market and its mini wholesale area, where a guide explains the market’s layout, Japanese food items, ingredients, and cooking tools. Note that the inner wholesale market moved to Toyosu in 2018, so this tour focuses on the outer market area. After the market walk, participants attend a sushi making class led by a professional sushi chef. The class covers how to prepare both nigiri and rolled sushi, using fresh ingredients and utensils sourced from the market. Participants will make five types of nigiri sushi and one rolled sushi, which they will eat for lunch. Tea and soup are included during the class. The chef and English-speaking local guide will answer questions throughout the session. Sushi toppings cannot be changed on the day of the class. The meeting point is at the main gate of Tsukiji Honganji Temple (front side only), where the guide will hold a “Japan Wonder Travel” sign. The tour involves mostly walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The sushi workshop takes place on the third floor of a traditional Japanese building accessible only by stairs. The tour may end with some delay, and late arrivals cannot be accommodated or extended. Infants and toddlers can join free but must share a sushi kit with a parent if they want to participate. The tour does not accommodate vegetarian, halal, gluten-free, kosher, or specific allergy meal requests, though allergy-related concerns can be mentioned when booking. The fish market is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, and other market holidays.
