Overview

This multiday, 48-hour hiking tour leads travelers to Acatenango Volcano near Antigua, Guatemala, including an overnight camping stay on the volcano. The tour begins near Fuego Volcano, where on clear days it is possible to see Pacaya and Agua volcanoes. Participants hike to the Acatenango campsite, where they stay in shared cabins housing two to four people, depending on availability. Each cabin includes a pillow, a sleeping bag rated for 6°C, an extra blanket, and a 12-centimeter mattress with waterproof insulation underneath to reduce ground cold. Meals provided include lunch, dinner, and breakfast. The tour supplies preset camping equipment such as a sleeping bag liner, winter jackets and gloves, a flashlight, a buff or bandana, a 3-liter Camelbak filled with water, a raincoat, and a first aid kit. The tour operates in cooperation with the local guide cooperative CAT from the San Jose Calderas community in Chimaltenango. An optional extra hike to Fuego Volcano is available at an additional cost.
