Overview

Chiang Mai's Old City is surrounded by a historic moat and ancient walls, containing several significant temples and markets. This private half-day tour covers key sites within the Old City in about four hours using a tuk tuk, a common local motorized vehicle. Hotel pickup and drop-off within 5 kilometers of the Old City are included. The tour begins at Tha Phae Gate, a former entrance that once protected Chiang Mai. From there, the tuk tuk travels inside the Old City to Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara, a temple built between the 14th and 15th centuries that once housed the Emerald Buddha now located in Bangkok. The next stop is the Three Kings Monument Square, which features statues of Chiang Mai’s three founding kings. Later, the tour visits Wat Sri Suphan, also called the Silver Temple for its zinc silver exterior, where visitors can see modern silversmiths practicing traditional techniques. After that, the tuk tuk stops at Wat Phra Singh to view its northern-style chapel architecture. The final part of the tour includes a visit to either Muang Mai Market or Warorot Market (Kad Luang), both known for a wide variety of local goods such as fruits, vegetables, souvenirs, seafood, and flowers, along with access to the Sunday Market and Night Bazaar. Entrance fees and an English-speaking guide are not included.
