Overview

This walking tour in Kyoto lasts about three and a half hours and is led by a MagicalTrip certified guide. The tour begins in the Gion district, where participants walk through streets lined with old Kyoto-style buildings while the guide explains local nightlife customs. The first food stop is at a traditional restaurant in Gion Shirakawa, where guests try Kyoto-style vegetable dishes called Obanzai, along with other local appetizers. After about an hour, the group moves to a second restaurant in the Pontocho district, an entertainment and red-light area located between the Kamo River and Kiyamachi Street. Here, guests sample additional Kyoto local dishes. The dinner includes more than nine different dishes in total. Following the meal, the tour continues to a standing bar on Kawaramachidori street, where participants taste six or more varieties of Kyoto sake. Soft drinks are also available at this stop. The tour ends at a café where guests enjoy a Japanese dessert paired with coffee or an alcoholic beverage. Two drinks per person are included during the tour. Vegetarian menus can be arranged with advance notice, but vegan and gluten-free options are not available. The route covers areas around the Kamogawa River, a 27-kilometer river flowing through Kyoto that remains clear and is a popular spot for relaxation. The tour is not wheelchair or stroller accessible and is not recommended for people with mobility issues.
