Overview

This full-day tour from Cusco is designed to bring visitors to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and back within 12 to 14 hours. The day begins early with hotel pickup in Cusco around 5:30 AM in private transportation heading to Ollantaytambo. From there, travelers board a train to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. The train journey lasts about 1 hour and 50 minutes, offering views of the surrounding landscape. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the guide meets the group at the train station and escorts them to the bus station for a 30-minute ascent of approximately 400 meters to the Machu Picchu sanctuary. The guided visit inside Machu Picchu lasts about 3 hours. The guide covers the main archaeological sites including the panoramic viewpoint, Temple of the Sun, central plaza, Intiwatana (solar observatory), Inca palace, Temple of the Condor, and the stepped terraces. After the guided tour, visitors have free time to explore the site independently. Returning to Aguas Calientes by bus, guests have time for lunch or to visit the town before boarding the afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo at 3:48 PM. Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, private transportation returns travelers to their hotel in Cusco, arriving around 7:30 PM.
