Overview

This three-hour walking tour focuses on the Colosseum and nearby ancient sites in Rome. The tour begins near the Colosseum where guests enter through the Gladiator’s Gate, a special entrance once used by gladiators. Visitors step onto the arena floor, an area not normally open to the public, and hear stories about the events and crowds that once filled the arena. The guide then leads the group through the Colosseum’s first and second levels, providing historical context along the way. The group size is limited to a maximum of 16 guests, with the 9 AM tour offering smaller groups of up to eight people for a more personal experience. After the Colosseum, the tour continues on foot to the Roman Forum. Here, the guide explains the functions of various ruins, such as shops, baths, and public buildings, and describes daily life during the reigns of emperors like Caesar, Nero, and Hadrian. Finally, the tour proceeds to Palatine Hill where participants see the ancient palaces located on the hill associated with Rome’s founding myth involving Romulus and Remus. Those who select the VIP Caesar & Colosseum option visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill before the Colosseum and gain access to additional areas called the SUPER Sites. These sites include the Casa di Augusto, the house of Caesar Augustus, notable for its well-preserved frescoes. The tour requires walking at a moderate pace and includes a local English-speaking guide and Colosseum entrance with arena access. Gratuities and hotel transfers are not included.
