Overview

The Salkantay Trek lasts five days and four nights, starting near Cusco, Peru. The trek passes through several ecosystems with views of the glaciated Salkantay Mountain. On the first night, accommodation is in glass cabins. The second and third nights are spent camping outdoors. On the fourth night, guests stay in a hobbit house that includes an outdoor jacuzzi. The final night is at a hotel. The route leads to Aguas Calientes, the town below Machu Picchu, where the last day is dedicated to visiting the ancient city. The tour also includes stays in domes, providing additional unique lodging options during the trek. Meals are provided throughout the tour except for the last lunch. A visit to a coffee farm is part of the itinerary. Experienced local indigenous guides lead the group. The tour includes round-trip bus transportation to Machu Picchu and an expedition train ticket for the return trip. Personal porters carry up to seven kilograms of gear per person using duffle bags provided at the briefing. Drinkable water is supplied along the route. Safety equipment includes a first aid kit, oxygen tank, and satellite phone. Private transportation is provided throughout the tour. Professional chefs and porters support the group. Sleeping bags, air mattresses, and trekking poles are not included but available for rent. Entry fees for the Sacred Valley, Salkantay, and Machu Picchu are covered. Optional activities like climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain require advance booking and are not included. Tips, travel insurance, and hotel stays in Cusco before and after the trek are not included.
