Overview

This full-day tour starts in Banff with a pickup behind the Mount Royal Hotel public bus parking area or from a hotel if arranged in advance. The group travels along the Icefields Parkway, a scenic highway known for views of Rocky Mountain peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, and lakes. The tour lasts about 11 hours and includes a professional guide with a small group of up to 24 guests. The first major stop is the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre. Here, guests board the six-wheeled Ice Explorer vehicle for a ride across the Athabasca Glacier’s snow and ice surface. During the ride, guests can drink pure glacier water. After the Ice Explorer experience, the group walks to the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-floored platform that extends over the Sunwapta Valley at 918 feet (280 meters) above the ground, providing views of the canyon and surrounding mountains. On the return trip, the tour stops briefly at Crowfoot Glacier for close glacier views, then visits Bow Lake, a large lake fed by meltwater from Bow Glacier at the base of Bow Summit. A picnic lunch is included, with options available by prior arrangement. Hotel pickup and drop-off can be arranged by contacting the operator in advance. Gratuities are not included in the price.
