Overview

This full-day 4-wheel drive tour covers about 9 hours as it follows the White Rim Road in Canyonlands National Park. The route passes Island in the Sky, Gooseneck Overlook, Musselman Arch, Lathrop Canyon, and the Shafer Trail descending to the Colorado River. Several short, optional hikes are included along the way, leading to caves, canyons, and viewpoints near the White Rim Sandstone level. Guests can choose to hike or rest by the vehicle while enjoying sights like Gooseneck Overlook and Musselman Arch. The tour begins with a short stop at Utah Scenic Byway 279 to see petroglyphs and learn about local ancient cultures. Then it continues to Potash Road for another petroglyph viewing and passes the Potash Salt Ponds. The 4WD track runs below Dead Horse Point State Park, offering views of the park from a less common angle. The main part of the trip is a backcountry drive through Island in the Sky via 4-wheel drive. The tour includes about four hours exploring Canyonlands, followed by an hour descending through Lathrop Canyon to the Colorado River. The White Rim Road section lasts about two hours with opportunities for moderate hikes. At the end of the day, the return drive climbs the Shafer Trail switchbacks, stopping at the viewpoint to look over the canyons visited earlier. A buffet lunch, ice water, professional guide, and 4x4 transport are included. Guests should bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, and suitable clothing. Park entrance fees are not included.
